Focusing on the use of natural material, and primarily utilizing reductive carving methods in addition to stack lamination, my style encourages a reflection of the natural world through the utilization of natural and biomorphic shapes that recall forms present in nature. Oftentimes water is present in many of the works, representing the life it sanctions in nature and giving movement to an otherwise static artwork. In a way there is an attempted unification between the material and the artist, trying to find a mutual relationship and respect for the material being worked with, attempting to work in unity rather than forcing the material to do something unnatural.

Material being pushed to the point of failure isn’t forbidden, failure is a part of the process and without pushing a material to its point of failure, how can one truly be comfortable working with it being unsure where the limit rests? This practice in particular aims to manipulate wood in ways that appear impossible to the unfamiliar viewer. The use of scrap material is very present, usually requiring much more work and preparation before being used, but giving meaning to the piece based on where that material might have originated from or what it was previously used as a part of.
